Bundibugyo

World Harvest Mission established a crossbreeding programme to establish a population of low-grade crossbred dairy goats to assist with infant nutrition. JOY Goat Development Programme is working with some of the groups to extend this project.

Kabarole

Kabarole Research and Resource Centre (KRC) has worked with a number of local CBOs to introduce dairy goats, but the idea has not taken root well.

Kasese

Heifer International founded the Kisinga Women’s Dairy Goat Project in the south of the district. With 800 current members this is the oldest and most successful purebred dairy goat breeding project in Uganda. Most of the breeding stock are of the South African Saanen type.

JOY Goat Development Programme has a cross-breeding project in Maliba Sub-county breeding 50% crossbred dairy goats in selected villages, so that bucks are available to the more remote villages to breed 25% and/or 37% crosses which can be kept in the same way that farmers manage their local goats, but will give some milk.
